Around 30% of the UK live with daily chronic pain, that’s around 28 million people according to research carried out in 2016. Many people become dependant on some form of medicated pain relief to relieve the symptoms. But it’s becoming widely recognised that the mind plays a role in the experience of pain.

The brain receives messages from our nerve fibres when we are in pain. Many of these are for an injury that has just been sustained, its the 999 call to our brain to take immediate action. When we have persistent and chronic pain it is usually a message reminding us of an old injury. As the pain always seems to be there, we focus on it and it can become amplified and affect day to day life.

How can solution focused hypnotherapy help with Pain?

If you are suffering from fibromyalgia, migraines, chronic pain, post-operative pain, back pain, nerve injuries etc then hypnotherapy could help relieve these symptoms. In hypnosis, and then through self-hypnosis, the person suffering from chronic pain is taught to alter the brain’s perception of the pain message, to turn down the intensity or to produce its own internal medication.

Please consult with your doctor first to make sure that the cause of that pain is already known and has been diagnosed by a medical practitioner. Pain is sometimes a symptom of a more serious underlying condition.

Find a time to suit your schedule. On average clients see me for between 8-12 sessions, but this can vary. Phobias and smoking take 3 sessions.
